Manchester City's pre-season continues against German champions Bayern Munich, with the two European giants meeting in Tokyo on Wednesday as part of the Audi Football Summit in Asia.

City's 2022/23 treble-winning season drew to a close on June 10, leading them to return to pre-season training later than their rivals, playing their first fixture in Japan against Yokohama F Marinos on July 23, a 5-3 win.

This upcoming fixture against Bayern will be followed by a match against Atletico Madrid on July 30 before the traditional Community Shield curtain raiser against Arsenal on August 6.

Bayern, meanwhile, begun their pre season with a remarkable 27-0 win against local club FC Rottach-Egern before flying out to Japan. They will then face Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale before a further friendly against Liverpool in Singapore before their season gets under way.

With many Premier League clubs in the USA at present, City have taken a different approach with their tour of Asia and will play Bayern at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo. With two of Europe's best club sides on display, it will be a highly sought-after affair, with a 68,698 capacity at the host stadium of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

The last match between the pair was in last season's Champions League, with City comfortably defeating Bayern over two legs in the quarter-finals. Thomas Tuchel's side went on to clinch the Bundesliga in dramatic fashion on the final day but will be hoping for a more successful season this time around.

Team news

City's main injury concern ahead of the match is Kevin De Bruyne, with the Belgian midfielder remaining a doubt following the hamstring tear he suffered during the Champions League final.

Bayern will be without new signing Raphael Guerreiro, with the Portuguese full-back ruled out following a muscle injury sustained in training. Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer will also both be absent as long-term injury concerns, with Eric Choupo-Moting has also been left at home for the tour.
