Police were left gobsmacked after they found two children crammed inside a boot of a car on the motorway.
North West Highways were called to reports of an overcrowded five-seater vehicle travelling on the M6.
The driver was pulled over in their VW Arteon alongside a total of seven passengers at junction 20 of the M6. They claimed they were on a family vacation, according to police.
Shocking images showed what appeared to be cushions, sleeping bags and blankets inside the car. A spokesperson confirmed the motorist was reported for three offences, including carrying two passengers without seat belts.
They said: "VW Arteon stopped following report of seven people on board , two children in the boot. Vehicle sighted on the M6, taken off Junction 20. Driver reported for three offences, carrying two passengers with no seatbelts and using a vehicle for an unsuitable purpose. Family going on holiday."

In response to the incident, Cheshire Police tweeted: "Unbelievable. We know many will be on our roads over the next few weeks for their holidays, but there are no excuses when it comes to not wearing seatbelts."
