Aaron Rodgers has dismissed suggestions the New York Jets will use ‘his’ offence this forthcoming season.

The new Jets quarterback is preparing for his first season with the franchise after being traded from the Green Bay Packers. The 39-year-old had spent the last 18 years of his career in Wisconsin, but made the switch to New York just days before the 2023 NFL Draft.

Rodgers has won four NFL MVP awards in his career, including two in back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021. During that time he worked with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who now has the same role with the Jets. Rodgers has been joined by several other players, including Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard and Adrian Amos, while new recruits Billy Turner and Tim Boyle also spent time alongside him at Lambeau Field.

And Lazard claimed recently that the new season will see the team use the “Aaron Rodgers offence” when speaking about the quarterback. However, Rodgers himself has dismissed the suggestion, and instead heaped praise on Hackett. The veteran quarterback believes that credit must be given to Hackett and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, as well as himself, for the offence tactics that the Jets plan to use this season.

“Well listen, I’m not going to say it’s my offense,” Rodgers said in a press conference. “It’s one I’ve had success in, for sure. But back in 2020, it was a conglomeration of what Matt [LaFleur] wanted to run, what ‘Hack’ had run in the past, and what I had run in the past. So, we just fit together. And this is kind of an offshoot of that with maybe a little more West Coast flavour to it. But this is really Hackett’s offense that I’ve been able to collaborate with him on. And I love it, but there is a lot of teaching for sure.”

The Jets are readying themselves for a busy pre-season schedule which will see them take part in four friendly games. As well as the Hall of Fame game against the Cleveland Browns, Rodgers will also be lining up against the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants.

All of those games, as well as the training camps, will be the build up to the 2023 NFL regular season. The Jets begin their campaign in the Week One opener against AFC East rivals the Buffalo Bills.
