Goldie Hawn has opened up about her decision not to tie the knot with her long-term partner Kurt Russell, as she blamed "ugly and hurtful" divorces.
The loved-up couple have a perfect Hollywood love story, having first started dating on Valentine's Day in 1983. Despite this, they've never made it down the aisle together.
When questioned about their decision not to get married, Goldie hit back: "Why should we get married? Isn't that a better question?"
The 77-year-old actress explained her comments, admitting both she and Kurt, 72, have seen the mess which can be left behind after an unsuccessful marriage.
"We have been married and because when it doesn't work out it ends up to be big business. Somebody has to own something, it's always ugly," she said.
Goldie was previously married to actor Gus Trikonis from 1969 until 1976 and musician Bill Hudson from 1976 until 1982. Goldie shares two children with Bill, actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.
Kurt was married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 until 1983, with the former couple sharing son Boston Russell.
Speaking to by CNN's Chris Wallace, Goldie continued: "Somebody actually has to take a look and say, 'How many divorces are fun? How many divorces actually don't cost money? How many divorces make you even hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?'"
The interview then noted how Kurt and Goldie are unlikely to get divorced after four decades together.
"How do you know that?" she asked.
The Hollywood star continued: "I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day if I want to be here."
She added: "Relationships are hard. They're not always easy. There's all kinds of hurdles we go through.
"There's things that we believe in, things we don't believe in, we agree on. So I think ultimately staying independent with independent thinking is important, so you can hold on to yourself, and you can actually have that feeling."
Although they've never married, Kurt and Goldie did welcome their son Wyatt Russell in 1986.
