It continues to be nothing put positive news from the Denver Broncos camp when it comes to Russell Wilson bouncing back this coming year.
Under new head coach in offensive guru Sean Payton, the Broncos will hope to have a good shot at turning their fortunes around - after finishing as one of the worst teams in the league last year when so much was promised.
Former quarterback and general manager John Elway continues to be around the team, spending time with new head coach Payton and Wilson, and has stated why Bronco fans should be confident of a turnaround.
Speaking to Denver7, Elway said: "Sean has a great feel for the QB position. He’s so knowledgeable on the offensive side. I think he knows what Russell will do to the best.
"Like every good football team, we have to try to run the football and run it successfully. And if we do that, it gives Russell a much better chance to be successful in the passing game. Wilson is such a positive guy. I think he’s excited about it. With what was going on last year, a lot of different things, Sean brings in so much experience.
Joe Burrow backs Patrick Mahomes after Kansas City Chiefs reach Super Bowl"I think Russell is looking forward to that coach to put him in the best position to be successful. It was a tough year for him last year. But he’s positive and tough. He will bounce back, and I think he’s going to have a much better year this year."
After being traded to the Broncos from the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson had, by far, the worst year of his career - with the offense being one of the lowest-ranked in the league.
The Broncos gave up a huge haul of draft picks to Seattle to acquire Wilson, with them believing that the quarterback would be the final piece to help them contend for a Super Bowl.
However, they only managed five wins even while having one of the top-ranked defences in the league - a sign of just how much Wilson and the offense struggled. This led to head coach Nathaniel Hackett losing his job, being replaced by Payton - seen as one of the best coaches of this generation.
And Payton added that he's already seeing changes in the team and stated why he is the right head coach to lead the team this season.
He said: "He's a perfect fit for where we are right now, where the Broncos are right now. Obviously, he has a lot of skins on the wall. He won a Super Bowl before and won a ton of football games. I don’t think there could have been a better fit. I think he will be great.
"It’s going to take some time with a new system, new coaches, even though the spring was very good. The expectations are up there. But they have calmed the expectations compared to last year, which is good. We have to do better with injuries. Hopefully, we can stay healthy."
