Jenifer Faison was living a picturesque life: a slow-burn love story, a perfect husband, and a promising career on-the-rise. She had reconnected with her college sweetheart after about 20 years, eventually marrying him.
Spencer Herron was a beloved school teacher, winning a ‘Teacher of the Year’ award twice in his county. His family and friends knew him as a kind and generous individual, specifically known for his love and devotion to his adoring wife.
Faison said: "Little did I know I was married to a man who had done something so horrible that it would devastate our lives and change us forever."
In Hulu’s Betrayal: The Perfect Husband , Faison recounts the story that has left her forever changed and traumatised. Her hopeless romantic love story crumbled one day when her husband was arrested with hefty sexual assault charges.
In fact, the allegations came from a student at the school where he taught.
Man in 30s dies after being stabbed in park sparking police probeAfter watching her husband be cuffed in their home, Faison went to take down his Facebook page. Once she was in the account, though, the real story began. His account led her to his email where she found photo after photo of naked women.
Faison continued to find photos and messages between the women. In fact, she believed him to be a “predator” and to be “living a double life.”
She said: “I was just looking for all the answers.”
These photos and messages were only a slice of the puzzle. Faison began unraveling the whole story and eventually learned more about the student which he had assaulted. The local community had trouble truly believing it.
However, Faison was discovering that he wasn’t the man that the world had believed him to be. She discovered messages that proved years of affairs with over 60 women involved. In fact, she admits that he was even cheating on her during the week of their wedding.
She said: “He was living a lie the entire time we were married.”
As a part of her healing, Faison chronicled her story through a podcast, walking those who were interested through the process she went through. Now, as a Hulu show, she’s sharing her story again alongside the voices of other women who were involved with Herron.
She said: "The healing's not over yet. I'm not out of the woods yet. It's only been four years. I am still clawing my way back out of this deep dark hole that I fell into.”
Betrayal: The Perfect Husband is available for streaming now on Hulu.
