Global singing sensation Lewis Capaldi has hit back at record labels in his first interview since announcing a career break.

The star released a statement recently revealing he would be taking time to rest and handle his Tourette's Syndrome after struggling through a performance at Glastonbury on its Pyramid Stage.

Now in his first interview since announcing his career back, he's joked that "life is meaningless" as he claimed record labels "know nothing" about music and even labelled his own hits as "f****** failures'.

Speaking on YouTube series interview series Hot Ones, Lewis was asked what he's learnt whilst being in the industry.

The star replied: "The question is a good one. Right, you just learn that you don't know anything. You learn you don't know anything and nobody has the answers.

"You don't know what a hit is - every time I think a song is a smash hit, it's been a complete abject f*****g failure. Labels know nothing, you know nothing. Nobody knows anything. No offence."

Next he opened up about his battles with imposter syndrome as he sarcastically quipped: "Life is meaningless".

He joked: "I was on the verge of a panic attack. My advice for people struggling? It's such a good question.

"If you're feeling like an imposter, it's probably because you suck. You're going to die alone everybody is what I'm saying to you.

"Erm, if you're out there, and you feel like an imposter - life is meaningless. None of this means anything. Hell is waiting for us all!"

Lewis announced his decision to step back from performing after his headline set at Glastonbury, he took to his Instagram and Twitter pages to share an emotional statement with his fans.

He wrote: "First of all thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."

The musician went on to add: "I know I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to take times out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this part year when I've needed it more than ever.

"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can.

"All my love, always, Lewis x."
