A child was airlifted to a hospital for treatment after a car collided with pedestrians this morning, the police have said.

Three people were injured outside Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, including a child who has been airlifted to Cardiff for treatment.

The incident happened at approximately 11.50am and police officers rushed to the scene to investigate, reports Wales Online.

Andrew Burns, hospital director at Withybush Hospital, said services are operating as normal and the injured people are receiving treatment.

He explained: "A traffic incident occurred at lunchtime today on the grounds of Withybush Hospital and Dyfed-Powys Police are in attendance.

"Appropriate medical care is being given to those who were injured in the incident and we kindly ask people not to contact the hospital for more information at this time.

"Services continue to operate as normal at Withybush Hospital today. If you are attending for an outpatient appointment, you may experience some delay in parking while investigations are underway but this is expected to return to normal in due course.

"Please ensure you access the healthcare service most appropriate to your need as we are experiencing some additional pressure on our urgent and emergency care services at this time. Please, only attend A&E if you have a life-threatening illness or serious injury.

"To ensure that we can treat patients appropriately, we urge you to choose your healthcare services very carefully, so that we are only seeing people with urgent or emergency care needs in A&E. You can find out more about alternative services here."

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "Officers are at the scene of an incident outside Withybush Hospital following a report of a car in collision with pedestrians at approximately 11.50am. An infant has been airlifted to Cardiff for treatment.

"A pedestrian, the driver of the car and a passenger have all been taken to hospital for treatment. There will be a police presence outside the hospital for a number of hours as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

"Anyone with information or dashcam footage that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online here, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 101. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired text the non-emergency number on 07811 311 908.
