Finding the perfect pint of Guinness has almost become a mythical quest for some.

What goes into the ideal Guinness can be debated perhaps but for a drink that's sparked countless social media accounts fixated around poorly poured pints, it's maybe a drink like no other. Whether you're a connoisseur or a casual drinker, chances are you will find even the slightest flaw in a flawless pint of the black gold, even I myself became something of an annoying Guinness snob after having the Guinness of my life in Dublin not so long ago.

Yet, have you actually poured one yourself? It's a pretty tricky task and it definitely put me off having a Guinness outside of a pub. I was always sceptical of having Guinness from a can anyway as it just seemed a drink that automatically leant itself to a pub, not to mention, that its quality hinges on the patience and overall process of the pour.

However, the NITROSURGE promises to give you all that straight from draught experience right at home, so, does it? They say it works through an "ultrasonic transducer, with a specifically tuned wavelength and frequency to create the iconic Guinness surge” so armed with my D in GCSE Science, I was more than convined and my hopes were high.

Guinness also states that the device has been "created by a team of innovators, designers, and taste experts” so you do feel you're in good hands with this. For a start, it looks pretty sleek coming in a little black Guinness box that houses the device itself, a charger, nozzle and cleaning brush.

Once you get down to it, it's a relatively easy contraption to use. All you have to do is open your can, keep in mind must be a Guinness NITROSURGE can, then attach the device and press the button, however the pour itself may take a little bit of practice, and patience.

On my first go I was guilty of letting bubbles invade my pint and my top up wasn’t much better either. It tasted ok but as a newly crowned Guinness elitist I can't say I was happy with my pour. I became better at it on a second go around and I think going forward it’ll be something I learn to master, as long as I take my time on the pour, and carefully follow one of those YouTube tutorials on it.

So, does it taste as good as a great Guinness from a pub? I have to say once it was poured correctly, it had many of the hallmarks that make a good Guinness, as It was creamy and sat really well in the glass. I also think the choice of glass matters too, using a regular up and down pint glass doesn't enable it to sit as well, or even look as good, as it could in a classic Guinness glass.

The device was first launched in September 2021 and is usually priced at £30. However Tesco have a sale now on until June18 for Clubcard holders where you can pick up the NITROSURGE for £22 down fro £30 and four of the specialist cans for £7.
