Most online games offer a name change feature nowadays and Valorant is no different. Here's how you can change your name in Valorant.

We all have had embarrassing display names in the past, don't worry, I – the artist formerly known as Anakin660923 – know this too well. While PlayStation and Xbox allow you to change your username for a fee (or even Riot Games' own League of Legends used to charge), Valorant allows you to change it up free of charge.

A Riot ID is a combination of a display name and a hashtag – a system similar to Battle.net and Discord. You can change up both your display name and your hashtag in Valorant. The name is the only thing that shows up in-game so don't think too hard about creating a funny name that extends to a hashtag. The Riot ID change will go across all all Riot Games, including League of Legends.

So whether you want a fresh change before the launch of the next season of the game or even before Valorant comes to console, the option to do so is there. Plus if you made a complete fool of yourself by saying something weird, or getting told off by your parents while you accidentally left your mic on you can hide away in shame with a new identity.

How to change your name in Valorant

So first off you'll need to log into your Riot Games account on the Riot Games website. Once you've logged in you'll need to open up your account page and you'll see a list of options, including ones for checking out your privacy settings, connected apps and general account details. Click on the Riot ID option on the left-hand side.

You'll see a pencil icon, click on that and you'll be able to create a new Riot ID. There's a few rules when creating a new ID; your new hashtag has to be between three to five characters and you can't use the word Riot or any offensive words in your username. Then you submit it. To recap:

You can only change your Riot ID once every 30 days, so make sure you're happy with your choice before you hit that submit button.
