Music fans are being offered a refund for tents to stop thousands of them being dumped at festivals.

Around 250,000 tents are ditched each year in the UK, with most ending up in landfill.

Sports retailer Decathlon said it will buy back its used camping gear to reduce waste.

It comes ahead of next week’s Glastonbury Festival, where the Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Elton John are headlining.

The No Tent Left Behind campaign is backed by presenter Lauren Laverne.

She said: “It’s time for us to party responsibly at all festivals this year and show some love to the planet.”

People who buy a £29.99 Quechua MH100 Two Person Tent from Decathlon and return it in “good condition” by July 21 will get a gift card refund.

Chris Allen, sustainability chief at Decathlon, said: “We know single-use tents are an environmental problem and aim to reduce the amount left behind.”

Glastonbury organisers are asking revellers to sign up to its Worthy Pledge to take all their camping gear home with them.
