Roman Kemp has thrown his support behind Lewis Capaldi after the singer pulled out of this weekend’s Capital Summertime Ball.
The 30-year-old radio host has praised the 26-year-old Someone You Loved singer for prioritising his own wellbeing instead of forcing himself on stage.
Earlier this month, Lewis released a statement explaining that he was cancelling all his work appointments ahead of his Glastonbury appearance on June 24.
While this means Lewis - who has so far released two number one albums and enjoyed five UK number one singles - pulled out of his Summertime Ball performance, event host Roman says the singer is doing the right thing.

“It’s so important people realise it’s OK to take time out and look after yourself and your mental wellbeing — so somebody like Lewis who is so honest and open with fans can make a real difference.”
Roman went on to explain that the fact Lewis decided to cancel gigs and appearances while arguably reaching his most famous status so far is particularly significant.
He said: “There’s an assumption that if you’re very successful and things are going well you can’t struggle with mental health, but that just isn’t true.

Earlier this month, Lewis explained that he would be taking time out of the spotlight and cancelling all work in order to focus on his own wellbeing.
He released a statement on June 5, explaining: “This is a really difficult message and one that hurts me a lot to have to type.
"But I'm really sorry to say that I'm going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury on June 24th.
"It's been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.
"That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven't been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I'm struggling to get to grips with it all."
He continued: "I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I'm able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.
'So fed up of tiresome pal flirting with my husband and always putting me down'
"I need to take these three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow for a bit, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands.
"I know many of you will have spent money on travel or hotels, which I appreciate more than ever with how difficult things are economically at the moment, so I'm extremely sorry for the impact this will have."
Lewis added: "The fact you're willing to come out and spend your time, money and love on these shows is beyond comprehension and I feel incredibly lucky. I'm getting all the help and support I need from the incredible people around me who I'm so grateful for.
"I take none of this for granted and can't wait to be back doing it again.”
While Roman has been an outspoken advocate of mental health and won praise in 2021 when he released a documentary titled Our Silent Emergency that explored mental health and male suicides.
