A nightmare neighbour "caused real misery" by shouting abuse, fighting people in the street, and stealing knives from another property at their flats.

The tenant at Helmsley House in Guisborough, Teesside ignored several warnings by the authorities and now has been asked to leave the flat.

It'll remain vacant for at least three months, TeessideLive reports.

They had subjected neighbours to a campaign of abuse and was at the centre of most of the 30-odd instances of anti-social behaviour at the group of flats in less than one year.

Teesside Magistrates' Court heard some residents were vulnerable and felt intimidated by ongoing theft, shouting of abuse, begging, assaults and violence.

The application to the court was made by Redcar and Cleveland Council with Cleveland Police and the landlord after months of evidence gathering.

Following the case, Councillor Adam Brook, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Housing, said: "This behaviour can cause real misery and it will not be tolerated. I’d like to thank everyone involved in doing what it took to ensure the residents of this area are protected.”

Inspector Neil Deluce said: "This is a fantastic example of great partnership work between the force, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Beyond Housing and this work will continue to ensure we’re improving the quality of life for our residents.

"We hope this closure order serves as a warning to those who cause misery in our neighbourhoods that we will take action and you could lose your home as a result."
