Last night's Guerrilla Collective Showcase showed off 62 upcoming indie titles in a packed two hour stream.
While Summer Game Fest may be filled with huge names in the industry like Capcom, Xbox, and Ubisoft hosting their own events (Capcom Showcase, Xbox and Starfield Showcase and Ubisoft Forward respectively) there's still room for the smaller titles during the festivities. No stream encompassed that more than the Guerrilla Collective Showcase which showed off over 60 titles across a two hour stream.
The standout title from the stream had to be Summitsphere's Antonblast which was first revealed last year on Kickstarter. Inspired by Game Boy classics – the Wario Land series (with a splash of Crash Bandicoot) Antonblast has you play as 'Destruction Worker' Dynamite Anton as he explores the Burner Peninsula to get his prized Spirit collection back from Satan himself. The game is a fast paced action platformer that has you leaving a trail of destruction in your wake as you seek to demolish each stage to get even with Satan.
The game itself is inspired by the Game Boy Advance aesthetic, which extends to the extremely bizarre trailer featuring a live-action Anton drinking and lamenting how hard it is to be a single dad. It harkens back to the extremely strange Nintendo ads of the later 90's – Early 2000's, even down to the bored narrator voice at the end. The trailer also announced that a demo for the game is available now on Steam.
As someone whose current game of the year is Pizza Tower – a game that also takes heavy inspiration from Wario Land – Antonblast is one of my most anticipated titles of the year, and the demo has only served to make me more excited.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingThe stream also showed off more games (62 in total), so it'll be a hard time to talk about them all but some of the highlights include the WWE-inspired RPG Wrestlequest which blends the world of wrestling with turn based RPG classics. You play as a young wrestler who seeks to reach the top of the wrestling world while getting help along the way by legendary names like 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Andre The Giant and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts.
Remnant II showed off a new trailer after its announcement at The Game Awards 2022 and looks as dark and oppressive as the original Remnant: From the Ashes. Mixing third-person shooting with the gameplay of Dark Souls Remnant 2 expands the original by offering an upgraded procedural generation system.
Other highlights include the wonderful Olliefrog Toad Skater, which – if the name didnt give it away – is a take on the classic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games starring a little frog, and also has a demo available on Steam now. Finally, Annalynn which is inspired by 80s arcade titles has been brought to Nintendo Switch (with this port featuring Dynamite Anton as an exclusive character).
Like I said before this was a long showcase and showed so many titles that it would be impossible to talk about all of them, but it's worth catching the Guerilla Collective Showcase to see if any of the 57 titles I haven't mentioned stand out to you.
