LIV Golf chiefs are remaining coy over reports Brooks Koepka's teammate Matt Wolff has decided to quit Smash GC partway through the 2023 season.

Wolff announced himself as one of the PGA Tour 's hottest prospects in the early stages of his career, before making the controversial decision to join LIV Golf last summer. Following his move to the breakaway league, the 24-year-old joined Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers team in 2022.

Heading into the new campaign, Wolff then made the decision to join Koepka and co after Peter Uihlein opted to join LIV's maiden team champions, the 4 Aces under the guidance of Dustin Johnson.

Just months on from his switch to Smash though it has emerged the youngster has quit the team. According to Barstool Sports, The 24-year-old's time with Koepka's setup came to an end due to his failure to bond with his new team.

When approached for comment by Mirror Sport, the Saudi-backed series were keen to keep their cards close to their chest on the matter, offering 'no comment' in response. Wolff's decision leaves the breakaway circuit with a logistical issue, with the 24-year-old only quitting his team rather than the whole league itself.

Wolff is said to be remaining with LIV Golf, and is on the hunt for a new setup to finish the season with. The problem posed to former PGA Tour star is all other 11 teams are already made up of four players, so it remains to be seen as to who Wolff will be compete for in the last seven events.

Whether he will be fit enough is also another question mark, after he was forced to pull out of LIV DC at Trump National last weekend. Wolff enjoyed an impressive start to the 2023 season, finishing 10th, 12th and fifth in his first three tournaments.

Since then though the American star has finished outside the top 40th only once, before his withdrawal in Washington DC last week.
