Rhod Gilbert has shared a new update on his health after being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The comedian, 54, announced in July that he had stage four cancer and was being treated at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff - where he had been a fundraising patron before his diagnosis.

The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star recently postponed a string of January tour shows after discovering he required additional surgery for gallstones and recurring gallbladder infections.

Despite the setback, Rhod has remained positive and has promised to 'get back on stage' as soon as possible.

He has however vowed to wait for his 'doctor's advice' before making any drastic moves.

"I thank each one of you for your continuing patience, rest assured, the show WILL go on," the comedian said.

The comedian previously said that he is also looking forward to the rescheduled tour dates for 2023, which have been pushed back until the summer.

Rhod also said he believes he is winning his cancer battle and feeling better every day, after undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgery after his diagnosis.

“I'm feeling good and feel like I'm recovering day by day. Some days I'm well enough to do a bit of writing and I've got a feeling when I've got through all this there'll be a show in it," he explained.

Rhod has been suffering from persistent neck and throat pain before he was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

He was on a charity fundraising trek when he started to feel ill and noticed lumps appearing on his body before he got them checked out.

Rhod – who hosts his own show, Growing Pains, on Comedy Central – has also discussed finding humour in difficult moments and teased about a potential future tour.

"We do have to find the humour when it doesn't seem there's much about. I've got a feeling when I get through all this there'll be a show in it."
