The £1.5 million Betfred Derby will take place at Epsom on Saturday June 3 with a new one-off start time.

The historic race has been moved to an early slot of 1.30pm in order to ensure the race is guaranteed live terrestrial coverage on ITV.

Most recently run at 4.30pm before the FA Cup Final, also on ITV, organisers were forced to change the off-time after the Manchester United vs Manchester City showdown was moved to a 3pm kick-off on police insistence.

Interest in this year’s running of the Classic will be keener than ever with legendary rider Frankie Dettori riding in the race for the final time.

The jockey, who has won the Derby twice before, has announced he will retire at the end of the season. He is set to partner Arrest, the Chester Vase winner owned by Juddmonte and trained by John and Thady Gosden.

Selected cruise-line ships can also view the live racing via an agreement with Global Eagle.

The US network FOX Sports will show the race live while FanDuel, Australian broadcaster Sky Thoroughbred Central and Dubai Racing Channel will also cover the race.

Derby 2023 key runners and riders with latest odds

Auguste Rodin (3-1)

Trained by eight time Derby winner Aidan O’Brien and the likely mount of Ryan Moore, Auguste Rodin remains the record-breaking trainer’s main hope despite flopping in the 2,000 Guineas. Starting a hot favourite, he finished 12th of 14 yet remains the apple of O'Brien’s eye.

Military Order (4-1)

The brother of 2021 Derby winner Adayar has already stepped up on his sibling by winning the Lingfield Derby Trial - in which Adayar was second - to earn a start in the field for trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick. Champion jockey Buick chose the wrong Godolphin horse that day so would relish another victory five years after his triumph on Masar.

Passenger (11-2)

Represents last year’s winning team of six-time Derby-winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute and jockey Richard Kingscote, who triumphed with Desert Crown in 2022. Passenger, owned by the Niarchos family’s Flaxman Stables, finished an unlucky-in-running third in the Dante Stakes and has been added to the field at a cost of £85,000.

Arrest (6-1)

The likely ‘housewives’ choice’ for the Derby owing to Frankie Dettori being his jockey. It’s already been a successful season for Dettori who won the 2,000 Guineas on Chaldean. in the same colours. Arrest won the Chester Vase in emphatic fashion on soft ground and may need it to rain in order to show his best.

The Foxes (10-1)

How the Srivaddhanaprabha family would welcome a change of fortune after Leicester City were relegated to the Championship. They also own a successful string of racehorses, King Power Racing, and The Foxes, who carries the club’s nickname, secured his place with victory in the richest Derby trial, the Dante Stakes at York.
