A home decor expert has unveiled a handy tip to keeping roses fresh for a matter of weeks rather than days. It can be difficult to keep flowers fresh in the home as sometimes just topping up their water will not cut it as they naturally grow weaker. But one home expert has shared how to buy them a few extra days freshness and says that the care starts right from the time you decide to take the blooms home.
Taking to TikTok, home expert Elnaz Hamai, shared her tried and tested advice to help roses "stay fresh for longer".
In the clip, the expert says: "Here are a few simple tips so your roses can stay fresh for longer.
"First, trim all of the leaves. This will prevent leaves from dying and releasing bacteria into the water. Then cut the stem with garden shears or a sharp knife."
In the video she can be seen cutting the stems at a diagonal angle to allow for better water absorption then arranging her roses in a vase which she has washed, filled with water and added the plant food to.

But, at this point, the expert shares what you must not do if you want the blooms to stay fresh and it is a hack you might not think about.
She states that the placement of your flowers in the home could be the biggest trick to getting your flowers to stay fresh.
She said: "Never place them next to the fruit bowl."
The reason for this, she adds, is that this will make the flowers go bad faster due to gas in the fruit which could be released into the flowers and will not help in keeping them fresh.
Fruit gives off an odourless invisible gas called ethylene, which is harmful for flowers - but crucially is harmless to humans and pets and shouldn't be confused with ethylene glycol, which is a key ingredient in antifreeze and is highly toxic.
