Mirror readers have made it clear that Suella Braverman should step down as Home Secretary following the row over a speeding ticket.

In our poll, 1,069 of you said she should fall on her sword while 358 saw no reason why she should leave the high-profile role.

The Mirror revealed her team wrongly denied she had received the penalty - but the MP was fined and given points on her licence after getting caught driving too fast last summer.

Yet Mrs Braverman’s aide insisted this was not true, with a Tory special adviser denying the claim FOUR TIMES, dismissing it all as 'nonsense'.

But Mrs Braverman finally admitted she had been caught speeding, as it was claimed she had asked civil servants to help her avoid a fine and points by arranging a private one-to-one driving awareness course.

Labour then demanded an urgent investigation into the Home Secretary - something that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has since dismissed.

He said Mrs Braverman's handling of a speeding offence did not breach ministerial rules.

Our initial story certainly got you talking. Here are just some of your comments.

'Yes - she should step down'

TheLecturer: "No person, including politicians, should think they are above the law."

GeraldineMitchell: "That old Tory problem that keeps catching them out - 'the rules we make don't apply to us.'

Rupert Marks: "There are only so many times someone can resign and be reappointed by a different Prime Minister. But even the Home Secretary isn't above the law, and should have done the driver's course or paid the fine straight away."

Notanalt: "Abuse of power is a breach of the ministerial code of conduct and as such she should be punished. That punishment can be as severe as a permanent ban from the House which would preclude her serving as an MP ever again."

'No - she shouldn't step down'

Bie: "No, Braverman should not step because she is an excellent MP with a spine."

Bigbry1965: "She wasn't trying to avoid the course. She was trying to do the speed awareness course in private, with her being a minister and the security implications. She took the points when she couldn't do the course on a one-to-one basis."

Lucy59: "We all would try to get out of the three points on our licence if we could, and if we are honest with ourselves. Makes me laugh how the holier than thou think Braverman acting like a normal human being in trying to swerve the points is a sackable incident."
