Jennifer Lopez's new Netflix film, The Mother, has reached a disappointing milestone on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the action-packed flick, 53-year-old Jennifer plays a female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect her young daughter, who she gave up years earlier from dangerous assailants.
However, despite enjoying the biggest opening weekend of 2023 on the streaming service, the review aggregation website wasn't easy on the movie as it has a critical score of 45 per cent based on 92 reviews so far.
The "rotten" score for The Mother is also the lowest score that its director Niki Caro has received for her work. This is a surprise because most of the acclaimed Kiwi filmmaker's credentials have been praised, such as 2002's Whale Rider and the live-action adaptation of Mulan released in 2020.
In comparison, members of the public enjoyed the movie more, giving it a combined score of 72 per cent based on a combined total of a thousand plus reviews.

Another added: "I just watched #TheMother jennifer lopez is acting her ass off! it's something she's never done before and one of her best movies. her stunt work is incredible. it's a role that proves to us how talented she is. I want more of this."
A third echoed: "The Mother "left me in tears but filled my heart with even more love for Jennifer. Still underestimated by so many, I do hope she finally gets the appreciation as an actress she deserves. #TheMotherNetflix #themother #jlo #nikicaro."
In fact, The Mother was so popular that earlier this week, it was revealed to be the number-one film in 82 countries and also racked a cumulative 83.71 million hours viewed in the first three days of its release.
The numbers made it the biggest opening weekend for any Netflix film so far this year, and it's particularly impressive as it beat out major releases from the streaming service, including Murder Mystery 2, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.
It's also safe to say that Jennifer is unbelievably proud of her new film, as she has been hard at work on the promotional trail for it. However, she has been doing so during speculation that her marriage to Ben Affleck is under strain.
The pair have been caught looking unhappy on several occasions recently, including one when they exchanged seemingly tense words at the Westwood Regency Village Theater.
Ben and J-Lo tied the knot in July last year after reigniting their romance almost 20 years after first being engaged.
You can catch Jennifer in The Mother, which is currently available to stream on Netflix.
