The New York Jets are in danger of losing one of the key defensive star's after the dominant lineman has changed his Twitter bio after negotiations with the team on an extension.

Quinnen Williams and the Jets have been in talks for a number of months, but the latest report has suggested that the two parties are 'not close' on agreeing a deal.

The defensive tackle is now one of the only players from the 2019 draft class yet to receive an extension - after several other players at his position and from the same year have signed new contracts with city rival New York Giants extended Dexter Lawrence to a four-year, $90 million contract.

That deal will have only driven up the price for Williams, with the former third overall draft pick now reportedly asking for as much as $25-30 million per season on a multi-year deal.

Williams has been active on Twitter, liking a tweet which suggests he wants that deal that had been reported by multiple outlets - while also deleting the Jets from his bio.

Williams' Twitter now reads: "Defensive tackle for ..........", after taking the Jets out of it and changing his header to an image of him playing in college for Alabama.

The Jets will be hoping to agree a deal with Williams, who will be needed if they are to have any shot at competing for a Super Bowl after bringing in Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

And while Williams will be a priority, they might struggle to sign him after making multiple acquisitions this off-season, including inheriting Rodgers' massive deal.

As it stands next season, the Jets are more than $40 million over the salary cap, meaning they will have to make a number of moves - including cutting some big-salary players to assure themselves of having any chance of extending Williams.

Williams did not attend the Jets off-season training last week, and will likely remain away from the team until some sort of deal is agreed upon.

According to ESPN, the Jets and Williams are not close to a deal, with general manager Joe Douglas admitting that he is "optimistic and hopeful" something can get done soon.
