The Fortnite 23.40 update has just gone live, and the Fortnite Most Wanted event is set to bring some major heat to the battlefield.

Fortnite's latest major patch, update 23.40, has been released today on all platforms leading to, as always, some server downtime. The downtime has now finished and the update should have applied automatically, but what's new in Fortnite following the patch?

In update v23.30 we saw the return of some Dragonball content, including items and skins which have created havoc on the island. This update only adds more, with the pistol meta well underway, we're seeing the return of some old fan favourites. You'll also find brand new exotic weapons and the introduction of heat levels to help you track your opponents.

You can find the full patch notes on Epic's website but we've included them below so you can see exactly what's being changed.

Fortnite update 23.40 patch notes

The new cold-blooded Syndicate has taken over the island, which means you can find new weapons and NPCs around the map to interact with. New vaults have appeared which contain exotic loot and a keycard is required for entry. These can be found through battling the Syndicate.

We're also seeing the Fortnite Most Wanted event in this patch, with new quest lines, the return of vaulted weapons and heat levels in-game which give you both buffs and debuffs.

New exotic Fortnite weapons

These weapons can be obtained from cold-blooded vaults but can also be found scattered around the map if you're unable to get your hands on a keycard.

Returning from the vault

These vaulted weapons are now back in battle royale during the Fortnite Most Wanted event:

Due to the return of these weapons, motorboats, bows and bow-related-augments are all vaulted for now so will not be available during battle royale games for the duration of the Fortnite Most Wanted Event.

New reality augments

Unlike the previous reality augments we've seen, these four new ones do not require unlocking, so they're available for you to choose from in the rotation straight away. Two of them are only available during the Fortnite Most Wanted event and will be removed during the next patch update, so be sure to take advantage while you can.

Heat levels in-game

During the Fortnite Most Wanted event, you will receive heat levels in-game, which can be tracked by the flame icons in your HUD. When you have any heat level, cold-blooded NPCs will be hostile, you will be visible to other players on the minimap, and you’ll be more noticeable in the environment.

However, there are also perks to each heat level which you might want to take advantage of.

Fortnite Most Wanted quests

There is a new quest line just for Most Wanted event in this patch, which will reward you with Infamy, which you can then use to unlock in-game rewards such as the Cash Stash Back Bling, The Vault Guardian Pickaxe, and the Gold Blooded Ace Outfit.

Quest tracking can be found on the home screen in the cold-blooded tab and all are available with no purchase required.

You'll find five separate quest sets including Intel & Recon, Going In Loud, Going In Quiet, Cracking the Vault, and Clean Getaway. Completing the majority of quests in each line unlocks the next set and rewards you with a Cold Blooded Medallion. You can then use five medallions to unlock the progressive Solid Skull Back Bling.
