When planning a wedding, it can be difficult to decide on a date that you know everyone can attend, especially if you're inviting people of different ages who may have certain commitments at certain times of the year.

And one woman has split opinion online after she said she wants to have her wedding in June - but knows her fiancé's daughter will be taking her GCSE exams at the same time.

The woman said she and her husband-to-be have chosen June for their wedding because it will line up with their "unofficial anniversary", but they're worried that the event will cause a distraction for the man's teenage daughter, who will be busy trying to focus on her important exams.

In a post on Mumsnet, the woman said: "After a very long engagement (7 years!), my partner and I are finally booking our wedding for next year. We have always wanted to get married in June as our unofficial anniversary is in this month. However, my stepdaughter will be taking her GCSEs next year and they fall over May-June time!

"Do you think [it would be unreasonable] to think she will be okay for one day and it won't disrupt her too much? I am happy to go into July as obviously I'd rather she do as well as she can but just wondered what people's thoughts are. The June date has a lot of sentimental value for us."

The mum also said she and her partner have also been looking at dates in the May half-term, as although this will still be in the middle of the teen's exams, she will have more time to get back to revising before school starts again.

Commenters were split over the issue, as while some said the mum's stepdaughter would be "fine" for one day, others said it was "selfish" to host a wedding in the middle of her exams.

And some even pointed out it was unlikely to be "just one day", as the teen's dad and stepmum will both be rushing around making sure everything is finalised in the weeks leading up to the wedding.

One person said: "She will be absolutely fine for one day. Mumsnet are so bloody weird around exams its like life has to come to a standstill for the entire 12-18 months before GCSEs."

But another disagreed, insisting: "I think it would be pretty selfish to do it in the middle of her exams. It won't just be one day, there will inevitably be other stuff going on around the wedding, you stressing about arrangements, guests, etc."

And a third posted: "I think this is one of those times you need to prioritise your child's future and let her sit her GCSEs without distractions! Unless it's once her exams are finished and won’t take her away from revision."

In an update, the woman explained her stepdaughter's mum isn't in the picture so she lives full-time with her dad and stepmum. And while she hasn't made a decision yet on whether her June wedding will go ahead, she has said she'll "ultimately do what's best" for her stepdaughter.
