Arsenal's Premier League title hopes are still alive after they defeated Newcastle 2-0 at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

Martin Odegaard's stunning first-half strike and Fabian Schar's own goal were enough for the Gunners to claim all three points. The result leaves Arsenal second in the Premier League table, one point behind leaders Manchester City having played a game more.

City remain the red hot favourites for the title after winning 10 consecutive Premier League games, but Arsenal are ready to pounce if Pep Guardiola's side slip up. Here is the best of the reaction from Sunday's game and an update on a former Gunners captain.

Arteta still believes

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remains confident his team can win the Premier League title this season. He told reporters after the Newcastle game: "We are there. We want to keep digging. We know that the prize is there and not too far.

"The only thing we can do is keep insisting and don't turn our backs and lose the focus, or something else. Be determined every day. Let's keep going and see what happens.

"It proves we have done it today, and now do it against Brighton [in Arsenal's next game on Sunday]. Really demanding. We have to be at our best to beat them again. We have done it for ten months, we have to keep doing it. And we are there.

"It feels very different from ten days ago and we have to make sure the momentum is there. Today was the best performance. We have won in difficult ground consistently in different ways. This game demanded something different. We did what the game demanded."

Odegaard and Martinelli make history

Thanks to Odegaard's strike on Sunday afternoon, two Arsenal players have scored 15 goals in a Premier League season for the first time ever this year. The other player to reach the landmark is Gabriel Martinelli, while Bukayo Saka also has 13 goals to his name.

"Martin Odegaard always has so much time," former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live during Sunday afternoon's game. "The best players in the world make time stand still on the football pitch and slow things down. It’s such an art."

Gary Neville was impressed with Odegaard's strike against Newcastle. He told Sky Sports: "[He's got a] brilliant left foot and you just cannot leave him free from 20 yards out."

Lacazette scores FOUR

Former Arsenal skipper Alexandre Lacazette scored four goals on Sunday afternoon to help Lyon complete a dramatic comeback against Montpellier. Lyon recovered from 4-1 down to win 5-4, with Lacazette scoring a 100th-minute penalty.

Lacazette, who left Arsenal on a free transfer last summer, now has 24 league goals this season to go level with Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 Golden Boot race. Lacazette found the net just four times in the Premier League last season.
