Tom Cruise teased that King Charles III could be his "wingman" for a flight in the future during his cameo appearance in the Coronation Concert over the weekend.

The actor, 60, had featured in a pre-recorded segment that aired during the event at Windsor Castle on Sunday (May 7), which was in celebration of King Charles' Coronation.

He was seen flying through the sky in a plane as he issued a message to King Charles, 74, who had been crowned alongside Queen Camilla, 75, on Saturday (May 6).

Tom delivered his tribute in the segment whilst at the controls of the plane, which it's been reported was one of the aircrafts that featured in the film Top Gun: Maverick.

Tom - who is understood to have decades of experience as a pilot - remarked during the clip shown in the concert: "Pilot to pilot, Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time".

The segment had also included Pierce Brosnan, 69, and Bear Grylls, 48, who discussed the "action man skills" that King Charles has acquired over the course of his life.

Pierce said that he "got his wings as a fully-trained RAF pilot" decades ago, whilst Bear added that King Charles "even took on the Royal Marines' commando training".

Tom's cameo comes after he was spotted alongside Prince William, 40, and Princess Kate, 41, at the premiere for Top Gun: Maverick that was held in London just last year.

The actor had reprised his role as pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the project, which was a highly-awaited sequel to the film Top Gun, which had been released back in 1986.

King Charles' eldest son and his wife were among the guests in attendance at the Coronation Concert that was held at Windsor Castle on the weekend to celebrate him.

The event - which was broadcast by the BBC and had been hosted by actor Hugh Bonneville - saw Prince William take to the stage at one point to give a speech about his father.

Pre-recorded segments played during the concert featured celebrities such as professional dancer Oti Mabuse as well as actors Dame Joan Collins and Hugh Jackman.

There were performances from a host of singers including Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli. The line-up also included groups like Take That.
