Stunning footage shot by from a drone has shown an abandoned Scottish hospital and nearby street.

The spectacular video shows derelict buildings and no sign of life along Firth Street in Roslin village, near Edinburgh.

It shows an empty Roslynlee Hospital, a former mental health facility in Midlothian, which has been closed for more than 12 years after shutting in 2011, EdinburghLive reports.

Shot by Simply Scotland Photography and shared on YouTube on Saturday, the birds eye view footage reveals the ageing and old buildings, with no sign of anyone living there.

It shows not only the hospital in a derelict condition but also homes on the nearby Firth Road which could be seen with their roofs caved in.

Windows at the former NHS site have been boarded up, with the structure looking solid but aged.

In contrast, the homes in Firth Street are heavily damaged with fragments and parts of the building scattered on the floor below.

There's a lot of overgrown vegetation and rust which has taken over the village buildings and fences have been put up around the sites to stop people from getting in.

Roslynlee Hospital was a grade C listed building which was designed by William Lambie Moffat and opened as the Midlothian Peebles Asylum in 1874.

In 1898 an additional two wings, designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, were completed.

It's believed the healthcare complex was adopted into the National Health Service as Rosslynlee Mental Hospital in 1948 before it became the Rosslynlee Hospital in 1960.

However from the 1980s the hospital gradually declined before it was closed in 2011.

The hospital and its surrounding area is earmarked for a massive redevelopment which would see it turned into 121 luxury four, five and six bedroom homes - creating a village called St Margarets.

Applicant Robertson Group explained: “St. Margarets is a luxury new development coming soon to Midlothian, close to the village of Roslin and just seven miles south of Edinburgh city centre.

“Part of the wider masterplan for the former Rosslynlee Hospital and a new stand-alone village, St. Margarets will feature 121 new four, five and six bedroom detached homes.

“Set within a parkland environment of mature woodland with breath-taking views, the development is in an idyllic location, offering the best of both worlds in a rural setting and close to the city.”
