Prince William is set to appear in a new fly-on-the-wall documentary as he travels the country on his new homelessness project.

The programme is believed to give the public an intimate insight into William, 40, and his role within the Royal Family.

It has been reported the documentary is hoped to be a success when it airs in the summer and will potentially lead to further instalments.

The Prince of Wales' passionate work as a senior royal is set to be highlighted in the ITV show.

“He’s keen to highlight his work, particularly on a homeless project which was a subject very close to his mother’s heart, and to connect with the public on a new level.

“He knows all too well how important it is that the monarchy develops a more modern relationship with the British people," a source told The Sun.

The Mirror has contacted ITV and Prince William's representatives for comment.

The Prince and Princess of Wales paid an emotional visit to a Welsh village to remember to the victims of the Aberfan disaster on Friday.

The disaster, one of the worst in British history, saw 116 children and 28 adults killed when a waste tip from a mine slid down a mountain into the town of Aberfan in 1966.

William and Kate were given a guide of the Aberfan Memorial Garden by the disaster's survivor David Davies, a former pupil at Pantglas Primary School, and Professor Peter Vaughan, Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan.

William's late grandmother visited Aberfan eight days after the tragedy – and shortly after a mass funeral had taken place. Her decision not to visit sooner was said to have been one of the greatest regrets of her reign.

During the couple's two day trip to Wales, Kate said her family miss Diana every day in an emotional heart-to-heart with a well-wisher.

A woman complimented Kate's famous engagement ring, which originally belonged to her mother-in-law, resulting in the Princess sharing a new bit of information about the stunning piece.

Kate revealed the ring was exactly the same as to when it was owned by the late Princess Diana.

The Princess explained: "It's the same ring and it was exactly the same size when I tried it on."

She continued of William's late mother: "With the children and the grandchildren, she would've loved being a grandmother so much. She'd be brilliant. We miss her every day."

The exchange came as William and Kate popped into a local rugby club after spending the afternoon with mountain rescue workers. During the outing, they abseiled down the side of a cliff in the Brecon Beacons.
