Three teenagers killed in a tragic road crash have been named as their school spoke of its 'profound' shock and sadness.

Harry Purcell, 17, and Matilda Seccombe, 16, and 16-year-old Frank Wormald died after the Ford Fiesta they were travelling in collided with another car on a rural road in Warwickshire on Friday afternoon.

A fourth teenager, named locally as 17-year-old Edward Spencer, was also in the car at the time and remains in hospital in a stable condition following surgery, their school said.

Both Harry and Matilda died in hospital on Friday after the crash near Shipston-on-Stour, Chipping Campden School said.

Frank was also taken to hospital but died on Sunday, the school said.

Head teacher John Sanderson said the school's flag would fly at "half mast" over the news.

"There are no words that I can find to express the sense of loss that we feel," Mr Sanderson wrote in a letter to parents, as he expressed sympathy for the teenager's families.

"Each one of these young people has been part of our extended school family and each loss is felt profoundly.

"In time, I would like to try and find the words to pay tribute to each of the young people we have lost, as each was remarkable and unique, having touched the lives of so many in such profound ways."

Inspector Michael Huntley from Warwickshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This is a tragic incident involving several young people, and our thoughts go out to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives, to those who have been injured, and to the local community who may have been affected by this incident.

"Specially-trained family liaison officers are currently supporting the families involved, and we would ask that the privacy of those involved is respected at this difficult time.

"Specialist officers are carrying out a detailed investigation to piece together the circumstances of the collision, and we are working with our partner agencies and the local authority.

"We would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to us to please get in touch, especially if you were travelling in the area and may have any information or dashcam footage."
