Tuscaloosa lies on the banks of the Black Warrior River in west-central Alabama.

Home to 99,543 residents the city has a thriving business community and is filled with history.

It's home to the renowned University of Alabama, established in 1831, while the city was the state capital of Alabama from from 1826 to 1846.

The city is also home to manufacturing plants of large multinational firms, such as Michelin Tires, JVC America and Chrysler-Mercedes.

This latest crash comes just over two weeks after four children were killed in a tragic Tennessee crash which left their mum fighting for her life.

Three were sisters, all aged under five. Luna was four, Kristen three, and Mariela just one year old.

Emergency services arrived to find four young girls dying by the side of the road after they were thrown from the car in the early hours of Sunday, March 26.

The three girls had been travelling in the car with their mu, Zahira Reyes, 36, aunt Rina Reyes, 35, another relative Anthony, 18, his girlfriend Tania Rodriguez, 21, and Rina's 12-year-old daughter Lissette - who was the fourth child to die in the tragedy.

Rina, Lissette and Tania all also died in the crash.
