Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster revealed the club's co-owner Ryan Reynolds called him a "double handsome b*****d" after his late penalty save against Notts County.

The veteran has only been on the books of the National League side for a matter of weeks, having come out of retirement to sign a short-term deal in March. However, his display on Monday may well see him go down in club history.

A topsy-turvy game saw Wrexham fall behind before twice taking the lead, only to give County a chance to rescue a late point from the spot. Foster came up trumps with a save from Cedwyn Scott, though, sending the owners and fans wild.

'Rob kissed me fully on the lips and Ryan called me a double handsome b*****d,' Foster said after the game. "I'll take that.

"They're so happy, if you could order an absolute bob on, top of the class, top of the range owner, then you would just package them two up because they are as good as it gets.

"It means so much to them, they care so much, they do it properly. I've been here for what three weeks now and it's ran so professionally you would not believe. It is ridiculous how they run it, so fair play to them they deserve all they get."

John Bostock had put Notts County in front with his first goal in nearly seven years, only for Paul Mullin to equalise early in the second half. Jacob Mendy and Elliott Lee struck either side of a Kyle Cameron header to put the hosts on the verge of victory before Foster's last-gasp heroics.

The keeper suggested it was "almost a shambles" that the National League only gets two promotion places. "Obviously we're [Wrexham and Notts County] far and away better than the rest of the teams, so they need to look at that," he told BT Sport. "But fair play to Notts County, that was as good a game as I've played in, genuinely."

The victory for Wrexham leaves them three points clear at the top, having played one game fewer than Notts County. They have 103 points to County's 100, with no other side breaking the 100-point barrier.

A return of 10 points from the last four games of the season would guarantee Wrexham top spot and leave their rivals facing more games in the playoffs. Phil Parkinson's side travel to Barnet for their next league game on April 15, followed by home games against Yeovil and Boreham Wood, before rounding off their season with a trip to Torquay.
