After Ben Foster pulled off a heroic stoppage-time penalty save to secure a crucial 3-2 win for Wrexham over promotion rivals Notts County, Ryan Reynolds joked he was going to hug the former England goalkeeper so hard he would break his ribs.

Foster came out of retirement last month to rejoin Wrexham, having previously played there on loan in 2005. The 40-year-old signed a short-term deal to try and help Wrexham push for promotion from the National League.

The club has not played in the English Football League since 2008, but are flying high under the ownership of Hollywood stars Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham and Notts County have dominated the National League this season, but only one side can achieve automatic promotion to League Two.

In a blockbuster top of the table clash, Wrexham beat their rivals 3-2 to go three points clear with a game in hand, with Foster saving a penalty from Cedwyn Scott in the 97th minute to seal a huge win for the club.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Reynolds said: "I'm used to working under extreme pressure, but usually I have some kind of control over it. I have nothing here, all I can do is watch and hope like everybody else.

"It was a pressure cooker coming into it for both of these teams. What both have achieved is historic on every level and I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.

"When I get my hands on Ben Foster, he's gonna be on the injured list because I'm gonna break ribs I'm gonna hug him so hard." Reflecting on his penalty save, Foster said: "You just dive and hope for the best. I f you go the right way and get your hand on it, you'd like to think you'll save it.

"This is non league, we fill this out every week, 10,000 fans - the most passionate... we took 4,500 away to Halifax last week, we put in an awful performance and we needed to win big today.

"Obviously we're [Wrexham and Notts County] far and away better than the rest of the teams, so they need to look at that. But fair play to Notts County, that was as good a game as I've played in, genuinely."
