Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is reportedly involved with one of the bids for National Hockey League side Ottawa Senators, and Ryan Reynolds could get on board if their offer is accepted.
Following the success of the Wrexham AFC takeover with Rob McElhenney, Reynolds is keen to expand his sports ownership portfolio and acquire something a little closer to home. The Hollywood star announced last month that he had teamed up with The Remington Group to buy the Senators - although they face heavy competition.
According to Postmedia and a report in the Ottawa Sun, Reynolds and The Remington Group face fierce competition from rival bidders, with as many as four already lodging proposals. One of those groups is reportedly the Neko Sparks group, who apparently have The Rock on board.
The competition for the Senators continues to heat up, after the Melnyk family announced they were listening to offers following the death of owner Eugene. Current bidders are willing to pay upwards of $950million (£762m), which would make it the largest sale in NHL history.
Reynolds may already be involved in a bid but according to TSN host Brent Wallace, the actor could potentially team up with Neko Sparks and The Rock if their offer is accepted instead. "With the Neko Sparks group, I’m told that their big celebrity is… Dwayne Johnson," Wallace reported Thursday on the Coming In Hot podcast with Jason York and Bobby Ryan.

"The Rock is apparently involved with the Neko Sparks group. One of the biggest, well-known people on the planet could possibly be a part of the face of your franchise. I think that’s a pretty big deal, and I think the Neko Sparks group has him in their corner."
But rather than a big Hollywood scrap commence for the franchise, Wallace believes that the duo could become the face of the franchise together, rather than go their separate ways. "Ryan Reynolds and The Rock are very close friends, from what I understand," Wallace added.
"They’ve done a movie together called ‘Red Notice.’ They’ve done a few social media posts together if I’m not mistaken. I believe that may help sway possibly Ryan Reynolds [to] joining that group if Neko Sparks was to get the team."
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has already welcomed an approach from Ryan Reynolds, as he believes that his introduction would only boost the popularity of the league. But with Reynolds and The Rock on board, Bettman could be in dreamland.
