If you've ever made a silly parenting mistake, you might take comfort in hearing about one dad's hilarious fail.

The parent accidentally sent his son to school with Guinness in his lunch box - and only realised his mistake when it was too late.

As the dad confessed in a post to TikTok as @moneymanmyers, he mixed up the drink with a can of sparkling water.

"Well, I gotta go pick up my kid from school today because I made a big mistake," he explained. "When my son was born the best advice I ever got was you know more than you think you do but today is not that day."

He then filmed the two drinks side by side, pointing out the similarities in the two cans of the same colour.

"One of these is sparkling water and he likes for me to pack that in his lunch because it is awesome," the dad explained. "One of these is not sparkling water although it looks like the sparkling water can it is not sparkling water. Therefore, I've got to go pick up my kid from school and try to explain this situation."

Stunned by the awkward mix-up, fans rushed to share jokes in the comment section of the video, which racked up three million views.

"A kid brought in a can of white claw thinking it was regular sparkling water too," one responder revealed.

Another commented: "My mom packed me a wine cooler for lunch because she didn't speak or read English. It was strawberry flavoured."

Someone else wrote: "I sent my kid to school with Cat Treats for the class. I thought I was sending fruit snacks. Packages looked identical."

Meanwhile, someone joked: "The Guinness is just hop infused sparkling water." Another said: "We're gonna need an update on that conversation with the teacher."
