Two children have been taken to hospital after they were injured on a funfair ride.

Emergency services were rushed to the scene following the incident at the Hook Fair in Epsom, Surrey on Monday, with police officers arriving at the fairground shortly afterwards to close the ride and cordon off the area.

Photographs posted on social media also showed an air ambulance arriving at Hook Road Arena. The two children were admitted to hospital for assessment of their injuries, according to police.

The incident reportedly took place on the Frogitt ride, which spins and bounces up and down.

One eyewitness, speaking to a different local publication, reported seeing a metal bar raise up on the ride while it was moving.

Another described seeing a girl's leg hanging out of the ride, leading him to rush over the operator's booth to urge them to stop.

Surrey Police have launched an appeal for information following the incident and are asking anyone with information to get in touch as soon as they can, reports SurreyLive.

A spokesperson for the force said: "On Monday, 3 April just before 7.15pm, Surrey Police were called to a fairground at Hook Road Arena in Epsom following reports that a person had fallen from one of the rides.

"South East Coast Ambulance also attended, and a 16-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were both taken to hospital for medical attention. Both have since been discharged with minor injuries.

"The ‘Crazy Frog’ ride remains closed at this time until safety checks have been completed. The funfair itself remains open.

"The Health & Safety Executive will be leading this investigation with the support of Surrey Police and our partners at Epsom & Ewell Borough Council.

"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has video or photographic footage of what happened, to contact us quoting SYP-20230403-0637"

The Hook Arena Fair had returned after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many families expected to be attendance this week due to the half term break.
