The Milwaukee Brewers suffered a massive blunder ahead of their MLB home opener against the New York Mets with a special pregame treat being spoiled by a closed roof.

Like several stadiums in, American Family Field - home of the Brewers - has a retractable roof. Fans were set to be treated to a flyover by a B-1B Lancer but were forced to watch on the big screen and listen to the roar of its engines as the roof remained shut.

The roof being shut by the Brewers isn’t out of the ordinary. It remains shut whenever the temperature is below 60 degrees and there is rain in the forecast.

Unfortunately, the weather sits at 56 degrees and rain could make an appearance in the seventh inning, and so the roof was closed. The pregame festivities would’ve got the crowd roaring behind the Brewers, who have started the 2023 MLB season strong.

The Brewers faced the Chicago Cubs three times, losing the first game 4-0, but followed up with 3-1 and 9-5 wins. And they look likely to make it three wins in a row with the Brewers leading the Mets in the first of their three games. Brian Anderson scored the first home run of the season.

The Brewers’ flyover blunder follows on from the Boston Red Sox, with their spectacle not visible to some inside Fenway Park. Fans were left disappointed when they couldn’t catch a glimpse of two F-35As and two F-15Cs.

There has been a number of head-scratching pregame spectacles in US sports over the years, so the Brewers will not feel alone. In 1994, the San Antonio Spurs inadvertently drenched fans, players and coaches after a fireworks display set off a water cannon at the Alamodome.

And a flyover at the 2022 Pro Bowl in Las Vegas wasn’t much better viewing for fans. The shadows of the planes could be seen through the closed roof as they darted high above the stadium.

The Brewers will have 80 more chances to improve their pregame ceremony throughout the 2023 MLB regular season.
