Brits can expect their water bills to go up once again today amid an already crippling cost of living crisis.

Average bills across the country will go up by £31 a year from today, in what is the biggest increase in 20 years.

The average yearly bill will now be a hefty £448, but there will be bigger increases for Brits in certain areas.

One handy new map from nous shows where the worst hits Brits will be. Bills are likely to be higher in areas where there are large houses, as water bills are based on the value of a person's home.

Some people can try and save with a meter, but if this does not work then water companies will give customers a two-year trial to try one.

So where are the worst hit areas?

Anglian Water

The average bill for Anglian Water users is going up by £47 and the average bill for 2023 until 2024 will be £492.

A spokesperson for the company said in February that factors like "rising inflation rates" were driving the hike in bills.

They said: "Because we’re investing more in the things that are important to our customers and our region, as we plan for the future. This includes measures to secure water supplies and infrastructure that protects the environment, whilst connecting communities to new sources of water to build resilience for the long term.

"Despite these ongoing investments and the significant expansion of customer support, bills will continue to sit at around £1.35 per day on average.

Northumbrian Water

A 7.5 per cent increase for households with Northumbrian Water came into place today.

The hike sees Brits in the northeast looking at a £29 rise in the price of the average bill and the average household bill for 2023 to 2024 is £391.

Hardworking Brits in the northwest will see their combined water and sewerage bills rise by £26 on average. It leaves the average household bill for 2023 to 2024 a grim £443.

In February, the company claimed they were "keeping our increases at an absolute minimum this year" as the 6.4 per cent increase comes into effect.

The business appeal to customers to try and seek help if they are eligible for it and recommended people switch to a water meter if they can.

It said: "If you’re worried about your water bill, please get in touch. There are lots of ways we can make your water bill more affordable."

Severn Trent Water

A rise of seven per cent sees Severn Trent Water Bills increase by £28 a year. The average household bill for 2023 to 24 is now at £419.

Dŵr Cymru

Customers of Dŵr Cymru, which covers most of Wales, are looking at an increase of £14. Customers are looking at a whopping £499 average bill for 2023 to 2024.

The not-for-profit provider is the second highest in England and Wales.

Hafren Dyfrdwy

Hafren Dyfrdwy will see average bills rise by £41 to £372 a year. The 12 per cent increase is the largest hike anywhere in the country.

Watchdog the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) said one in five in Wales are finding it hard to pay and the increase in bills won't help.

Yorkshire Water

A seven per cent increase in water bills will see Yorkshire Water customers fork out an extra £30 for their bills, which now stand at £446 on average.

South West Water

There is an eight per cent increase amounting to an £8 hike for South West Water users this year. This means Brits who use the water service can expect to pay an average of £476 from 2023 to 2024.

Wessex Water

The nine per cent increase in Wessex Water bills will see the average customer paying an extra £42.

The average household bill for 2023 to 2024 is now the highest in the country at £504.

Thames Water

Londoners using Thames water can expect to fork out an extra £39 over their next year of bills, taking the average household bill for 2023 to 2024 to £456.
