Two teenage boys have been charged with murder after a 16-year-old was stabbed to death.

Rohan Shand, who was known as Fred by his family and friends, died following an incident near the Cock Hotel in Harborough Road at about 3.35pm on Wednesday.

The two boys charged are aged 16 and 14 and both from Northampton, and cannot be named for legal reasons.

The pair will appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.

Two men, aged 49 and 21 from Northampton who were arrested in connection with the death, have both been released with no further action.

Northamptonshire Police say they would still like to speak to witnesses, anyone with information and anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dash-cam footage of the area at the time.

At the time of his death tributes poured in for the slain teenager.

A number of floral tributes could be seen dotted around the Kingsthorpe area amid an elevated police presence.

One touching photograph posted online showed Fred stood in his uniform ready for school, while another shared on social media featured a younger Freddie stood in a living room.

A JustGiving page set up by Shania Coleman to give the schoolboy the "send off he deserves" has raised more than £18,000, with him being described as a "polite and caring young man" who would have "gone on to do such great things".

Saying the money would help to take some pressure off of Fred‘s father Rohan Shand, she added: "Fred was loved by so many people."

Fellow pupils and members of the local community have also shared dozens of messages of condolence on the page, with many expressing their shock at the loss of a young life.

One wrote "Absolutely heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with family and friends at such a sad time", while another said: "Words are not enough. God Bless you young man. Thoughts and prayers to all your family."
