Gogglebox fans left concerned after Giles and Mary's abrupt exit during episode

Gogglebox viewers were left panicked on Friday night, as two stars of the show appeared to vanish pretty abruptly in the middle of the episode.

Giles and Mary were seen watching a show during the episode, only for them to completely disappear just minutes later.

As the camera panned to their empty chairs as emotional piano music played, viewers were left concerned with some fans asking if something had happened to the duo.

Some even tweeted that they thought the couple had "passed away" in a bizarre reaction, questioning why the cameras had focused in on their empty seats just as the music was playing.

Giles and Mary had literally been seen moments earlier sitting down in front of the telly, but fans were concerned to see they abruptly vanished with no explanation.

Suddenly, they could be heard talking in the background and playing the piano - while watching Channel 4's music competition The Piano.

It seems the pair got up and decided to have a go themselves, after being wowed by a young girl named Lucy.

Panic over, Giles and Mary returned to their seats for the remainder of the show - but it didn't do much to calm down panicked viewers.

Taking to Twitter, one fan mocked others for fearing the worst as others confessed the moment left them confused and worried for the cast members.

One viewer tweeted: "I saw those two empty chairs and my heart stopped… I thought something had happened to Nutty and Nutty. Phew."

Another concerned viewer agreed: "I thought Giles and Mary had passed a way for a second and there was going to be one of those voiceovers."

A third fan wrote of the moment: "Bloody hell, I thought Giles and Mary had died," as a fourth added: "Jesus… Empty chairs… Thought Nutty & Bitty had died."

The comments kept on coming too, as another viewer noticed: "Giles and Mary have gone."

Some viewers certainly saw the funny side though, with one fan tweeting: "I am creased at everyone thinking Giles and Mary had passed away because of their empty chairs."

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel4 and streaming service All 4.
