The Boston Bruins came from behind to win 3-2 against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, picking up their 50th win of the regular season.

The Bruins have become the fastest NHL team to ever hit 50 wins, doing so after just 64 regular season games. The previous record was 66 games, which was matched by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2018/19 season after the Red Wings originally set the pace back in 1997.

It's been a record-breaking campaign for the Bruins, and they could be on course to secure the most wins ever in an NHL regular season. Incredibly, their win on Saturday has already seen them clinch a play-off spot with 18 games left to play, and they could become the most dominant NFL team of all-time.

It doesn't look like the Bruins can be stopped this season, and they've set NHL records for reaching 80 points, 100 points, and now 50 wins. They're on course to finish the season with a record number of points, needing 28 points from their remaining 18 games to set a new league best.

The record for most wins in a season is currently 62, meaning that 13 wins from their final 18 regular season clashes could see them surpass that too. It's a big ask, but it seems inevitable with their current form.

This kind of dominance isn't seen too often in the NHL, and the Bruins are 17 points clear of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who sit second in the Atlantic Division. It was the Edmonton Oilers that stopped a 10-game winning streak on Friday, and goaltender Linus Ullmark said after their record-breaking win against the Red Wings that they're not a team that likes to lose two in a row.

"We never want to lose two in a row. We showed that today," Ullmark said. "We came out a little slow. They came out hot as well.

"Give them credit, they really came here to play in that first period and we were just weren’t ready for it. But we took a breather in between the first and second, and we told each other we’ve got to ramp it up a little bit. And then we absolutely dominated them in the second."

The Red Wings were 2-0 up after the first period, but the Bruins never know when they're beaten and came out firing for the remaining 40 minutes. They face the Red Wings again on Sunday, and will have their eye on the remaining NHL records to wrap up a perfect regular season.
