A young mum and her unborn daughter died after battling extreme morning sickness.

Jessica Cronshaw, 26, from Blackburn, was 28 weeks pregnant with her first daughter when they both tragically died in December after dealing with an extreme form of sickness known as hyperemesis gravidarum.

Jessica was said to be suffering from severe pregnancy sickness since she had found out she was pregnant with her daughter Elsie.

Jessica's family are now being supported by experts as they prepare for an inquest into their deaths.

A pre-inquest review was held yesterday (Thursday, March 9), at Preston Corners Court, which will look into the cause of Jessica and Elsie's deaths.

The hearing heard that both the GP surgery where Jessica was registered and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Blackburn and Burnley hospitals, are due to give evidence at a final inquest set to be held in July.

Assistant Coroner Kate Bisset described the deaths of Jessica and Elsie as "absolutely tragic".

The review heard that the hospital trust was currently investigating the antenatal care Jessica received, Lancslive reports.

Evidence relating to Jessca's employment will also be heard during the inquest.

The midwife who attended to Jessica has also provided a statement for the inquest.

The inquest is expected to last two days and is likely to be held at Accrington Town Hall.

After concluding the hearing, the coroner said to Jessica and Elsie's family: "I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through as a family. I am so very sorry for your losses."

Following Jessica and Elsie's death, friends and family gathered together to raise more than £17,000 for Pregnancy Sickness Support via JustGiving.

Steffi Scott-Miller, who set up the fundraiser, wrote: "We are raising money and funds for the UK5's only registered charity Pregnancy Sickness Support which supports women who are suffering from the debilitating condition Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG).

Steffi spoke of the importance of raising awareness and specialist counselling for those suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum.

She added: "None of this work would be possible without the kindness and generosity of their volunteers and supporters, and we need your support now more so than ever.

"No donation is too small to make, all contributions are very gratefully received by the charity. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the Pregnancy Sickness Support. It’s time to do our Jess & Elsie proud."
