A woman who was widowed more than 20 years ago still considers herself to be a married woman, but says she has had to contend with her sister's thoughts on the matter. According to this woman, her sister has previously tried to take off her wedding ring, encouraging her to 'cheat' and openly 'mocking' her reluctance on this front.

The widowed woman does not want another partner, and although she's had friends try to set her up in the past, they've always respected her wishes when she's declined. Her sister however is a different story entirely.

Although her sister has been 'cool' about things for the last few years, she's started exhibiting the same behaviours all over again over the last few weeks, even referring to er by her maiden name.

Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/QueasyBanana143, the unnamed woman wrote: "We'll call me Mrs Smith. My maiden name was Ms .Jones. My sister has started to call me Ms. Jones like the other night she made reservations for Ms. Jones. She also mailed me a book for '(my name) Jones'.

"Yesterday, I got kinda sick of it. She came over and we were getting ready to go somewhere and she made coffee and she jokingly said 'your coffee Ms Jones' and I got really mad. I said 'don’t call me that' and she said 'huh?'

Reaching out to fellow Reddit users for advice, she continued: "I said 'that’s NOT my name. I am Mrs Smith' and she said It wasn’t my name anymore, but it IS my name. I never changed it back. I never ever will.

"She's just messing with me. I don’t like it. It really hurts my feelings. I've told her that and she calls me that but she says it's my fault for never changing it.

"I never ever want to change it. I actually love when people call me Mrs Smith. It hurts when she calls me Ms Jones."

One person commented: "It's not for her to decide when you are ready to move on. I'm sure she just wants the best for you, but she also has to respect your wishes."

Another wrote: "Your sister is being completely disrespectful of your choice to keep your late husband's name. Tell her that if she keeps doing it, you have nothing more to say to her until she stops doing it. Then actually stop talking to her until she respects your chosen name."
