Even by his shamelessly corrupt political standards, Boris Johnson’s bid to get his father Stanley knighted is grotesque.

The brazen attempt to elevate an alleged wife-beater and sexist predator is utterly nauseating, appalling nepotism.

Nobody in their right mind could pretend the deposed Prime Minister’s dad deserves the title so this proposal must be blocked.

Johnson’s resignation honours list proposing an estimated 100 gongs and peerages for cronies is an argument to abolish the charade.

Labour’s Tony Blair and Gordon Brown did not reward chums in this way when they left No10 and Johnson’s list is nearly twice as long as those of David Cameron and Theresa May.

Harold Wilson’s controversial Lavender List, from 1976, suddenly looks a model of probity.

Honours need to be justified.

We feel sorry for the honest, hardworking, selfless people who earned their titles and watch aghast as the entire system is demeaned.

Let’s scrap resignation honours – starting with slippery Johnson’s friends and family list.

Flashing peril

Men who expose themselves to women are committing a sexual assault.

It is why the relatively high number of flashers who go on to commit more serious crimes means it must be taken more seriously.

It isn’t far-fetched to believe Sarah Everard could be alive today had Wayne Couzens been arrested and detained immediately after exposing himself at a McDonald’s in Kent.

The former Met officer is already serving a whole life jail sentence for Everard’s killing so the 19 months for three earlier flashing

incidents won’t matter much.

But his case shows why it is vital to come down heavy on men who expose themselves.

Just the ticket

In divided Britain, the North gets far less transport investment than the South.

Distributing spending more fairly and cutting bus and rail fares could be election winners for Labour. How about it, Mr Starmer?
