Laurence Fox's GB News show hit by complaints over Covid pregnancy claims

Viewers of Laurence Fox's GB News show have complained to Ofcom after a doctor made claims about the effect of the Covid vaccine on pregnant women.

Dr Tina Peers claimed 58% of women suffered a miscarriage during the Pfizer vaccine trial for the coronavirus, suggesting no research had been done on fertility studies.

Discussing the results of the MHRA public assessment report, she said: "Out of the 25 pregnancies [during the Pfizer trial], there were 15 miscarriages."

After the clip began to go viral, viewers were quick to share their outrage at the allegations, with one tweeting: "Laurence Fox had Tina Peers on his show last night, making a number of false statements about covid vaccines, including a ridiculous claim that 58% of women who got pregnant during the Pfizer trial had a miscarriage. This seems to be a variation on a long debunked story."

Another commented: "This is a clear example of 'fake news' and sharing false (and damaging) information."

Dr Peers has since tweeted the information she gave was incorrect, saying: "I want to correct this. This was my mistake taken from a paper which has just been revised. The rate is double what we would expect - a tragedy in anyone's book."

However one viewer said her apology was 'too late' as her initial claim had been seen by "millions of people".

Following the episode, which aired on February 24, more than 100 people complained to regulator Ofcom.

When contacted by The Mirror, Pfizer said: "Patient safety is our first priority.

"The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine can be used during pregnancy.

"A large amount of information from pregnant women vaccinated with the vaccine during the second and third trimester have not shown negative effects on the pregnancy or the newborn baby.

"While information on effects on pregnancy or the newborn baby after vaccination during the first trimester is limited, no change to the risk for miscarriage has been seen."

It's not the first time actor Laurence, 44, has caused controversy with his views on Covid.

Earlier this year he revealed he'd tested positive for the virus - days after proudly wearing an anti-vax t-shirt.

The father-of-two shared a photo of himself in a white top with black writing which read: "No vaccine needed, I have an immune system".

At the time, he captioned the post: "I really like my new t.shirt."

His post was ridiculed by some, including Gary Lineker's son George branding it "embarrassing".

However days later Laurence updated fans on his health as he shared a photo of a positive lateral flow test and confessed he "felt shivery and cr*p".

He tweeted: ""In other news, felt shivery and cr*p yesterday. Turns out I have been visited by Lord Covid at last and have the Omnicold (if the LFT is to be believed!).

"On the #Ivermectin, saline nasal rinse, quercetin, paracetamol and ibruprofen."

"More man flu than Wu-flu at the moment."

The Mirror has contacted Pfizer for comment.
