Police are hunting the owner of a dog which savaged a woman in a horrific attack leaving her needing 70 stitches in her face.

Police have released CCTV of the terrifying moment the dog mauled the woman in an effort to trace the man walking it after he fled the scene following the savage encounter.

The incident, which cops have described as a 'serious dog attack', took place in Blackpool as the victim was standing outside a house, LancsLive reports.

A man walked past with a dog on a chain. The pet, described as a tan or brown coloured dog, then jumped up before biting the woman’s face causing 'serious injury', according to the police report.

The victim was rushed to hospital and needed more than 70 stitches to help treat her injuries.

Officers say the man then fled the scene in the direction of Queen Street. He is described as in his 30s and was wearing black clothing.

Following a three-month investigation, Lancashire Constabulary has today (January 30) released CCTV of a man they want to speak to.

Anyone with information or who identifies the man or dog in the footage is urged to make contact as soon as possible.

A force spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information to identify this man after a serious dog attack in Blackpool. Around 11pm on November 1, the victim, a woman in her 40s, was stood outside an address in Lord Street.

"The woman was leaning over a wall as a man walked past with a dog on a chain. The dog jumped up, biting the woman’s face causing serious injury.

"She was taken to hospital and needed more than 70 stitches to help treat her injuries. The man made off from the scene in the direction of Queen Street.

"He is described as in his 30s and was wearing black. The dog is described as a tan or brown coloured dog on a large chain."

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or email [email protected] quoting log 0061 of November 2.

The news comes a day after the dog walker killed in a dog attack in Surrey on January 12 was named for the first time.

Natasha Johnston, 28, was attacked by the dogs she was hired to look after at a local beauty spot.

Armed officers and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) were dispatched to Gravelly Hill by police after they received reports of a dog attacking people at 2.45pm.

The attack reportedly took place after one dog bit another fellow dog walker, before going after Miss Johnston.

Miss Johnston was declared dead at the scene and another woman was rushed to hospital but has since been discharged, police said.
