Time is running out for Liverpool if they want to complete further deals in the January transfer window.

Boss Jurgen Klopp has already signalled his desire to bolster his squad having insisted he is not "too loyal" to his players, with a pressing need to strengthen their midfield.

However, the only addition to date this month has been the arrival of attacker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. With the Reds languishing in ninth place in the Premier League, fans will be keen to see at least one late arrival into the squad this month.

With that in mind, Mirror Football brings you the latest transfer updates from the red half of Merseyside.

Brighton star Moises Caicedo is among the central midfielders high on Liverpool’s shortlist but the south coast club have been urged to keep hold of the Ecuadorian.

Caicedo, for whom Chelsea have bid £55million and Arsenal £60m, went public with his desire to quit Brighton for a 'magnificent opportunity' this month on Friday when he took to social media.

Former Reds star turned Mirror Football pundit Stan Collymore believes the Seagulls should keep hold of the midfield ace and not become a ‘selling club’ in the top-flight.

“The fact Caicedo is a target for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea this month is another testament to Brighton’s recruitment,” Collymore explained. “But the Seagulls need to hang on to him because, if they are serious about challenging for Europe regularly, then they must become a destination club rather than a stepping stone to bigger things.”

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed there has been interest in midfielder Sander Berge – who has long been linked with a switch to Liverpool.

The Norway international, who was the Blades' record signing when he joined in January 2020, has been linked with a move to the Reds.

“I think there’s been interest, and there always is,” Heckingbottom said, as reported by talkSPORT.

“You start to hear it before windows and things like that, but there have been no bids. All I can do is stress the same things. With the position we’ve got ourselves in, I don’t want anyone to leave."

Roberto Firmino is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and Italian outlet Gazzetta claim the Brazilian is on Inter’s radar.

After the signings of Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz in the past year, coupled with Mohamed Salah’s contract extension, Firmino’s first-team status has been reduced.
