World No. 3 Jon Rahm has been blown away by Gareth Bale's golfing ability, as the former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid man prepares himself for his debut on the PGA Tour.

Bale retired from professional football earlier this month, having played for Southampton, Spurs, Real Madrid and Los Angeles FC.

Following his retirement, a whole host of fans were quick to link the Welshman to a potential career change into the world of golf. Bale has made no secret of his passion for the sport, and is said to be currently playing off a handicap of two.

The three-time Champions League winner is set to feature on the PGA Tour next month, after being named as an amateur in February's Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Ahead of the event, Bale has already been out teeing up alongside one of the world's best players after joining Rahm for a round of nine holes at Torrey Pines in California.

The pair were out playing together in a pro-am ahead of this week's Farmers Insurance Open.

After taking to the course and watching the Welshman up close, Rahm was left impressed with Bale's skill with a golf club in hand. He said: " I told Gareth you just can't be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn't seem fair.

"You can't be dedicated to one thing and still have this much talent for golf, it's not fair in the slightest." Clearly oblivious to Bale's recent retirement from football, Rahm added: "He's looking to retire soon and he loves this sport and he loves golf.

"He really wants to play a little bit more and hopefully in the future I'll see him more times in the Pro-Am." Claiming Bale was also too good for any tips from the 2021 US Open champion, the Spaniard went on: "He didn't ask for anything, and nor should he be asking he's good enough."

Ahead of his appearance at Pebble Beach next month, Rahm believes the Welsh star is better than his handicap of two suggests. "He got two strokes, which I think is already wrong. He should be giving strokes back to the rest of the amateurs because he's already a very, very good player."
