A prisoner who has been granted early release has told Media he will "go back to stealing" after being allowed to walk free today.
Speaking outside HMP Brixton, David Elliott was one of the 700-some prisoners being released today.
“I’m 50. I’ve been in and out of jail all my life. I’ve got 360 convictions… I’ve got an addiction to stealing,” Elliott said.
“This didn’t help me,” he added, pointing back towards the prison gates.
When asked what he was planning to do now, Elliot responded: “I’m gonna go stealing again… Whatever I get, whatever I get.”
Advising what Andy Burnham should do, the freed prisoner said: “Forget about us now. Concentrate on kids… give them all the help now before they get to our age. We’re a lost cause now.”
