Gym and workout clothes are often designed to be practical yet stylish, with many brands selling bum lifting but squat-proof leggings or mesh cut-out tops. Since the boom in athleisure wear during the pandemic, the boundaries between gym clothes and every day have become more blurred.

Fitness clothing brand Fabletics has pushed this definition to the limit with its rather revealing leggings, as they feature massive holes that reveal the model's matching underwear.

Not only are the leggings themselves utterly bizarre for workout wear, the brand's promotional images pair them with shiny, peep-toe high heels that are not fit for any gym dress code.

Social media users saw the advert pop up on their pages and immediately had "many questions" about the look. The product – which features thigh, crotch and bum cut-outs – is being sold by activewear brand Fabletics, co-founded by actor Kate Hudson.

Usually the striking legging-chaps hybrid retails for a whopping £84 but they have already been slashed to £16 in the sale, with the brand saying it's time to "gear up for gym season".

The picture shows a model in the bright pink version of the leggings, with matching pink bra and the high heels. The set also comes in black - still with large chunks of material missing from key areas.

Named 'Spotlight Shaping A** Out Capri', Fabletics' bold design has been mocked across the internet for its impractical use.

"I can't believe these are so reduced! I'm going to look so great on the treadmill," says author Lucy Vine.

Gym-goer Lynsey James added: "I think I might buy these myself, I want to look stylish on my walks around the village."

Lesley Williams joked: "I can't think why they are reduced to clear."

Martin Gardner added: "I have many questions."

"Did they go thread bare on the rowing machine?," added Helen McCusker, with a cheeky peach emoji.

"Is this outfit for real," asked news presenter Louisa Pilbeam, while a stunned Russ Kane chimed in: "Oh dear god…"

Referring to the less than ideal workout shoes, Amy Lavelle said: "I have questions about the mules…"

Other users tweeted: "Fabletics using the term 'workout gear' loosely here..." and "With all due respect Fabletics. What the actual f***?"

Fabletics themselves have not commented on the buzz surrounding the strange gym fit but have continued on with their sale of the strange leggings.
