Swinney to face FMQs amid Murrell jail fallout

John Swinney will face questions from MSPs at Holyrood on Thursday in the final FMQs before summer recess.

It comes after former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell was sentenced to more than five years in prison on Tuesday, having earlier admitted embezzling £400,000 of party cash.

The estranged husband of ex-first minister Nicola Sturgeon, Murrell, spent the funds on a campervan, kitchen appliances, coffee machines, luxury pens and toiletries.

Swinney could also face questions in the chamber after Scotland’s defeat to Brazil on Wednesday in the World Cup, as Steve Clarke’s men wait to find out if they will proceed to the knock-out stages of the tournament.
