Man 'murdered' in 'mobility scooter robbery' at Tesco car park as woman arrested

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 60s died following the suspected robbery of his mobility scooter, Gloucestershire Police said.

The man found unresponsive in the car park of Tesco superstore in Stroud on Sunday morning.

He was found without his mobility scooter, which he was known to use for getting around, with detectives now believing he was robbed and left for dead.

An ambulance crew rushed the man, who police have not yet named, to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but sadly died later in the day.

Gloucestershire Police said on Monday it was suspected that the victim was subject of a robbery and his mobility scooter was taken.

A woman from Stroud has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and murder and remained in police custody this afternoon.

Detectives from the force meanwhile are looking for anyone who may have seen a black mobility scooter being ridden in the area in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It's been described as black with four wheels, a front basket and arm rests.

A mobility scooter - believed to be the one belonging to the victim - was found abandoned on a nearby road by a member of the public later yesterday morning, shortly before 8am.

A murder probe was launched today by Gloucestershire's Major Crime Investigation Team.

The force is now calling on residents to review doorbell cameras and CCTV in case they have any footage of the mobility scooter or it being driven.

Police are also keen to hear from any motorists who were driving in the area in the early hours on Sunday and could have dashcam footage.
